Spice & Darkness
Non-Consent
Sex without consent — rape, depicted on the page. Often shortened to noncon. This is the hardest content the genre carries, and it is named plainly here rather than softened.
The Shadow Daddy Take
Noncon is the deepest end of dark romance and we don't pretend otherwise. It exists, readers seek it out, and they deserve to find it labeled honestly instead of buried under euphemism. We name it so you can choose it — or skip it — with your eyes open.

What it is
Non-consent — noncon — depicts sex that one party does not consent to: assault and rape, written explicitly. It is distinct from dubcon, where consent is murky; here it is absent. This is the most extreme content the spice spectrum holds.
On the page
Noncon appears in the darkest corners of dark romance — captor-captive arcs, villain love interests, revenge plots — where it dramatizes power, violation, and sometimes a corrupted path to attachment. It is divisive even among dark-romance readers, and that’s expected.
Fiction is not reality
Real rape is a crime and a trauma; reading about it on the page is neither. These are fantasies written and sought by adults who fully understand the difference, and engaging with the trope is not endorsement of the act. Read the content warnings on every book first — for this trope especially, they are not optional. If the subject is harmful for you, skip it without apology.
